How IGLA works

A digital kill switch
nobody can see.

IGLA is made by Author Alarm. The IGLA 200 is sold in the UK as the Autowatch Ghost II, the "ghost" people search for.

Blocks over the bus

IGLA digitally blocks the engine through the CAN and LIN buses instead of cutting a wire. Depending on the car it can stop the start, stop it going into gear, or stall the engine.

Nothing to find

No LED, no button, no extra wires that lead back to it. It's hidden in the loom and built to be invisible to scan tools.

Code or phone

Disarm with a code on factory buttons or your phone over Bluetooth. The IGLA 231 adds Bluetooth fobs that disarm it when they're close.

Service mode

A shop can work on the car without your code, your phone or your fobs.

You found the installer.

IGLA, made by Author Alarm, is the immobilizer a lot of Mopar and GM owners hear about first. We install IGLA systems. We're not an IGLA dealer, we're a Spynex dealer, so if you're still deciding we'll walk you through both.

  • Blocks the engine over the car's CAN and LIN buses instead of cutting a wire
  • No LED and no button on the unit, so there's nothing to follow to find it
  • Disarm with a code on your factory buttons, or from your phone over Bluetooth
  • Service mode lets a shop work on the car without your code

Same idea, a few names

The IGLA 200 is sold in the UK as the Autowatch Ghost II, which is why people search "ghost immobilizer" and "ghost alarm". Whatever you typed into Google, it's the same kind of system: a hidden module on the CAN bus and a code on your factory buttons.

IGLA vs Spynex

IGLA or Spynex?
Same goal. Here's the difference.

Both keep the engine blocked until your code goes in. Both hide on the CAN bus. Here's where they split, straight from each brand.

Spynex dealer

Spynex.
Sold and installed here.

We're a Spynex dealer, so the unit and the install come from the same guy, in one trip. Spynex has been building immobilizers since 2008 and covers roughly 99% of vehicles, with custom firmware when a car needs it.

Everything about Spynex

  1. Your buttons become the key

Spynex turns your car's own factory buttons into a pincode. No code, and the engine stays immobilized.

  2. Hidden on the CAN bus

A small module gets hidden in the car and reads the CAN bus directly. It's a non-invasive tap into the digital bus, not cut and spliced factory wires.

  3. Run it from your phone

The Spynex app changes your pincode, puts the car in service mode, arms and disarms it, and shows live security status.

Code only

Spynex Pin

Your factory buttons are the only key. Nothing extra on your keychain, nothing to lose.

Code + Bluetooth Tag

Spynex Tag

Adds a Bluetooth Tag as a second way in. It has a motion sensor and goes silent when it sits still, so a relay box outside your house has nothing to grab.

How they're taking them

A factory alarm won't stop a car that thinks it has a key.

None of this needs a broken window or a tow truck. It needs your car to accept a key, a signal or a message that isn't really yours.

01

Key programming at the OBD port

Get inside, plug a programmer into the diagnostic port under the dash, pair a blank key. The car sees a valid key and starts.

02

Relay attacks on keyless cars

One box near your front door picks up your fob. A second box at the car repeats it. The car opens and starts like you're standing next to it.

03

Going in through the wiring

Some crews skip the cabin and tap the car's network from wiring behind a headlight or bumper, sending the same messages a real key would.

An immobilizer like Spynex or IGLA sits on the car's CAN bus and keeps the engine blocked until your code goes in on the car's own buttons. A programmed key, a relayed fob or a spoofed message still gets them a car that won't drive.

Worried about a flatbed? An immobilizer stops it driving away. Ask about adding a GPS tracker for the rest.
"Had a great experience with 12 Volt Shield Pros! Junior installed Spynex on my vehicle and did a great job. He was quick, knowledgeable, and answered all my questions. He even came to my location, which made everything super convenient. Definitely recommend!"

IGLA questions.

Are you an IGLA dealer?

No. We install IGLA systems, and we're a Spynex dealer. If you've been looking at IGLA, text us your car and we'll walk you through both so you can pick.

Is IGLA the same thing as a ghost immobilizer?

Pretty much. The IGLA 200 is sold in the UK as the Autowatch Ghost II, which is why people search for "IGLA Ghost", "ghost immobilizer" or "ghost alarm". Same idea as Spynex: a hidden CAN bus module and a code on your factory buttons.

What is a CAN bus immobilizer, or digital kill switch?

It's a small hidden module that sits on your car's data network, the CAN bus. Until the right code goes in on the car's own buttons, it keeps the engine from running. People call it a digital kill switch because it does the same job as an old hidden switch, without cutting a single wire to the starter.

Does an immobilizer stop OBD key programming?

A thief can still program a key, but that's all they get. The immobilizer keeps the engine blocked until your code goes in, so a programmed key gets them a car that won't drive.

What if I forget my IGLA code?

IGLA's code is user-changeable, and there's a unique emergency code for exactly that situation.

Will a scan tool find it?

IGLA is built to be undetectable with scan and diagnostic tools, and it has no LED or button to give it away.
